The Power of Photography to Change the World

This morning, the first day of a soon-to-be very active Orpheus Photography blog (happy dance), I started reading my favorite photographer industry mag, PDN, Photo District News. Inside was a story about three women who decided to use photography and video to spread awareness of the violence against women that occurs every day across the globe. According to the World Bank Group, more women aged 15-44 die at the hands of men they love than are harmed or die from cancer. The website for their project is

As a photographer who wants to not only create beautiful and powerful work for clients but exhibit more universal projects, I was especially inspired by the photographers' idea to allow a downloadable PDF of printable images so that anyone moved by the issues could create an exhibit anywhere they could, like their workplace or in a local shelter.

Last week I had so much fun collaborating on a photoshoot in the studio and outside with Katherine Collins, a fellow Wellesley classmate and leader in new forms of investing that use nature as a balance. You can hear her describe her work here:
