A Brief Portrait of Abbie

August 03, 2014

As I was driving through the Maine town of Wiscasset on my way back to Boston, I decided to stop off for a bite to eat. I passed Abbie sitting majestically on the stoop of her owner's store and was fascinated with how self-composed she was. She looked at me only once the entire time I photographed her, with her expressions constantly changing due to the dog activity on the opposite side of the street. Apparently she is used to being photographed. At that moment, she seemed to represent the essence of canine and the essence of guardianship. Seen from a certain angle she might have looked like the sphynx.
